The summer transfer window has moved into its final week, as on midnight next Thursday, 31st August, the window will close until January 1st 2007.

Will Mark Hughes be making any more signings? Having already captured five players it is unlikely there will be a mass influx of new players, although there could be a few, let’s look at where Rovers could be strengthened?

Goalkeeping – Fully stocked here, world class number one in Brad Friedel, and two Internationals in reserve in Welshman Jason Brown and Finish ‘keeper Peter Enckelman so this area is covered.

Defenders – Although at the seasons outset, I, and probably most others saw this as being a well stocked area, but the potential midweek shortage highlighted that maybe one or two more wouldn’t be bad. Andre Ooijer has arrived, Egyptian Wael Gomaa could arrive shortly and Ghanaian defender Shilla Illiasu is currently on trial.

Midfielders – First choice quality such as Morten Gamst Pedersen, Steven Reid, Tugay, Robbie Savage and attacking midfielder David Bentley, along with the likes of Jonathan Douglas are just a few names at Hughes’ disposal. But I feel that could another, and ideally creative midfielder be added Rovers would be more than well equipped in this area.

Forwards – With International quality in Jason Roberts and Benni McCarthy as the number one strike partnership, with Francis Jeffers, Shefki Kuqi, Paul Gallagher and highly promising youngster Matt Derbyshire (should he not go out on loan) waiting in reserve if anyone else arrived now, or in January I’d be surprised.
