In what is being billed as possibly the best selection ever Blackburn Rovers have not one, but two goals in BBC’s Decembers Goal of the Month competition.

Morten Gamst Pedersen’s effort against Newcastle United (click here) and David Bentley’s goal against Reading (click here) – also the goal voted as Vital Blackburn Goal of the Month, have both been selected with eight others in a selection claimed to be the “best ever selection with at least six that could be in the running for Goal of the Season!”

Clearly with the Match of the Day team running the contest a Rover will not claim the accolade; if Tugay`s wonder strike against Tottenham Hotspur in November wasn’t deemed good enough to win Novembers then Gamst and Bentley have little hope.

As it is I think that Matthew Taylor’s goal for Portsmouth against Everton from the half way line should be the winner but as he isn’t a big name player and doesn’t play for a favourable team it will clearly be an unbiased selection with either Michael Essien or Didier Drogba of Chelsea or Paul Scholes of Manchester United winning…
