Two goals, by two players on opposite ends of the pitch and at opposite ends of the fixture has ensured Blackburn Rovers climb up into the playoff positions, providing Caretaker manager Eric Black his first and second victory as the gaffer.

Struggling Sheffield Wednesday made the trip to Ewood Park determined to climb out of the relegation zone. Blackburn Rovers on the other hand had gone 5 games without a win, dropping from the top of the pile to 10th position.

Only minutes into the fixture, Blackburn took the lead through an unlikely source. David Dunn turned back the years, beating his man before firing in a cross, Scottish Youngster Grant Hanley heading him the only goal of the match. Opportunities did come for both sides, with players lacking a cutting edge.

Colin Kazim Richards should of put Rovers ahead 2-0 after 10, however he volleyed well wide from a Givet cross. David Dunn limped off after 30 minutes and that ended the Rovers dominance. Sheffield turned defence into attack with Antonio and Llera creating chances but unable to convert.

Rovers threatened in the second half via Ruben Rochina, the Spaniard using his pace and trickery to bamboozle the Sheffield Defence. Though the star man was Paul Robinson, a string of late saves ensuring Rovers held onto a 1-0 Victory.

A few days later and it was Watford who visited Ewood Park, Rovers still without a manager. Martin Olsson was surprisingly dropped to the bench whilst Ruben Rochina made a rare start, Morten Gamst Pedersen also returning to the first team.

Chances again came few and far between, Watford happy to sit 5 in defence and attempt to counter, whilst Jordan Rhodes played the lonely role up front. Early shouts for a Rovers penalty were waved along whilst Colin Kazim Richards again wasted an opportunity to give Rovers the lead after some neat play by Rochina. A desperate intervention by Grant Hanley ensured scores were locked at the break.

The best chance of the game came after a driven strike found the hand of Tommie Hoban, penalty. Colin Kazim Richards took the ball from Rhodes’ hands before striking the woodwork. However his blushes were spared deep into injury time, a Martin Olsson strike deflecting into the path of Jordan Rhodes, taking a touch before blasting into the corner of the net.
