Over the course of every season we are told that football is a team game, that the team comes first and if the team performs then we the results will follow.

Well according to this Vital Blackburn Award that isn’t always the case – sometimes an individual has to rise above the dross and earn his team the goods.

The voting for this award saw Jermaine Jones’ individual power house display at Arsenal get a few votes.

Not to mention the contributions of Junior Hoilett and Jason Roberts to the last 4/5 games of the season and our Premier League saving run in.

But there was one man and one monster effort that took home this award.

The Vital Blackburn individual performance of the season, as voted for by you is…. Chris Samba away at West Ham.

In a 1-1 draw that initially could have been a full 3 points we were left hanging on at the end and without the presence of the big Congolese captain it could have been a losing effort.

He single handedly kept West Ham at bay with a string of blocks, immaculately timed challenges and well placed foots.

Well done Kong for taking home this award.
