VB Winners and Losers

As the dust settles on a barn storming Sunday and a superb 3-2 win over hated local rivals Burnley we will look back with calm and subjectivity on yesterdays events.

But before we do, can I just say that for the dressing up of the Jack Walker statue, the disgusting chorus of the Jack Walker death song and for Burnley hooligans storming a family pub at 9pm yesterday to bully families with small kids – you deserved defeat you vile thugs. See you in March where we will out sing you again!

Right with that out of my system lets crack on…

WINNERS

FRANCO DI SANTO – It looks like we will only have this fine man until January but lets make the most of him. Deployed as the top man again in a 4-4-1-1 Franco put in a sterling shift in a fiesty game and never became overawed at all.

He chased down everything in a ‘the defence starts with attack’ manner and displayed several touches of classes whilst bringing others into the game.

Few could argue that he deserved his goal – one of the easiest he will ever score after Brian ‘The Feast’ Jensen had laughably tried to win a free kick by falling over when touched by one of his own players.

He looks like a Chelsea player, he plays like a Chelsea player and he would be so much better off here until May than sitting on the Chelsea bench.

Left to thunderous applause in the 70th minute, kissing the Rovers badge and clearly loving every minute of being a Rover.

EL HADJI DIOUF – What a big game just when it was needed. Diouf was a constant thorn in the side of the Burnley left as his tricks, turns and body movement were perfectly complimented by his snarling, tireless running.

These derbies were made for him as he is a born fighter. I suspect this is why he was given a nod over the more pacy and refined Emerton as his battling nature was needed more.

He even had the good grace to let the corner taking be done by Dunn (who is a better corner taker) and concentrated on what he does best, playing on the fringes and getting stuck in.

Super stuff.

DAVID DUNN – The best player on the pitch. Thats all I am saying, seriously, thats all that needs to be said. Oh go on then one more word – Legend.

LOSERS

STEVEN N’ZONZI – Not that he was pthat bad any means, he put in a shift but the game did pass him by at times and his passing range didnt seem to be in full operation as he looked scared to do something wrong. In short he played it safe.

Nothing too much wrong with that you would think but when you have Keith Andrews who does the same next to you, we need the variety of a fast, forward thinking ball.

Something that we know Steven can pull off but refused to in favour of the short ball at least five times yesterday.

A gripe in an otherwise decent performance.

KEITH ANDREWS – Much better in the second half after what I can only assume was a shoeing from Big Sam at half time.

Why did he get a telling off though?

In the first half he looked nervous and was letting the massive, yet super clumsy Andre Bikey bully him. He pulled out of two tackles and was again foiling fast moves by slowing down the speed of passes.

But five minutes before half time, a raking ball out to Pedersen, who headed onto Chimbonda… and all got better from tbere.

LARS JACOBSEN – A minor complaint here as he did have another very solid game and looks good going forward but Lars needs to just learn when to settle down and when to bomb forward at will.

He does a cracking job of suporting Diouf/Emerton but he was caught out twice by being out of position as he was so eager to get forward when he would of been better advised to hang fire.

His lack of urgency also afforded Robbie Blake the time to lash home a thunderbolt after four minutes too.

I will put my hands up though and say well done to Lars as he is turning into a very shrewd buy from the master of them – Sam Allardyce.

Winners and Losers aside though – what a day, what a result, I gotta feeling….
