Venky’s Chair Anuradha Desai today stated she is confident the club can push up the table with the right management, and believes the top 6 is not out of reach.

When speaking to the BBC she said:

‘Most of the time the team has been between eighth and 10th in the rankings. Only once it went out of the league.

‘With the right motivation I feel they can go higher than eighth. Who is to say they can not do better than that, say fifth or sixth position, why not?

Current boss Sam Allardyce is set to be given a chance to prove himself and show he can be the one to take Rovers further, despite rumour the owners would look to get rid of the big man to help promote entertaining football in Asia.

‘We want results and Sam has taken up the challenge. He deserves a chance,’ said Desai

‘To this end, the group have promised manager Allardyce funds to spend in the January transfer window.

‘Some money has been put aside in improving the health of the club.’

No doubt the rumours will start to flow about possible transfer targets, with John Carew, Mohammed Tchite and Roque Santa Cruz already being linked.

One thing is certain, we will most definitely need a new striker if we are to get anywhere close to the top 6!
