It’s not been officially confirmed by either Blackburn Rovers of Aston Villa, however, Twitter images of Rudy Gestede outside of the training ground holding aloft a Villa shirt show it all!!

Gestede has left Rovers…… We know this isn’t a surprise at all is it as this has been doing the round (not so much the Villa move, this only came about in the past few days really) for a while. The only real surprise for me is it’s taken so long for him to leave Rovers. I definitely think this is a much better move for him than the others (Crystal Palace aside perhaps) he was being linked to. Had Gestede joined Norwich City or Watford he’d probably be back in The SkyBet Championship after a season, I don’t think Villa will go that way!! Will they??

I know last season I might’ve had a bit of moan and a groan at the Benin International when some speculation came about he wanted to move on given the way it was portrayed. However, that was typical media hype!! (I should’ve known it wasn’t factually) He wasn’t putting Rovers down he just wanted to challenge himself and he’s managed this. You never want to think you’re club isn’t big enough for a player (no player is too big for you’re club!!), however, the reality is he wanted Barclays Premier League Football and we couldn’t give it to him, that and the fact we needed the money!!

He’ll cut it at Premier League level, I’m certain of that even though he didn’t do much with Cardiff City. We gave him a platform and with him and Jordan Rhodes (other talented players we’ve had/still got but could lose??) scoring we should’ve made it into the Premier League ourselves by now really but if Villa give him the right supply and use him in the right way he’ll do very well I’m sure.

I’m not sure if I would’ve preferred (ideally neither) Rhodes leaving as opposed to RG??

Rudy’s special (The Specials – A message to you Rudy is what I’m trying to reference here as I had my article’s title) but much more than a big man. Much, much more than a big target man isn’t he as he’s skilful, strong, will hold the ball up for himself and others and is lethal in and around the box (he scores the simple tap ins but also some goals you wouldn’t expect from a striker). He is superb in the air too but you can’t label him a target man.

I wouldn’t look to put him in the Christian Benteke ball park (just yet) but considering what Villa got for the Belgium International and what they’ve seemingly paid for RG they’ve done a good bit of business” from that point of view (we’ve not done so well perhaps??) and he’ll more than help fill that void for them.

Hopefully (if he does sign after his Rovers trial??) Villa old boy Nathan Delfouneso can do this for Rovers and fulfil the potential I always thought he was meant to have as a youngster at England Under-21 International level, he’s only about twenty-four now though I think so all being well Gary Bowyer can get the best out of him.

I wish Rudy nothing but the best and good luck for this season and future season, I’m an optimist as far as Rovers go (as most of you dudes know) but even my optimism is worrying what our season will bring and that was before the exit of RG!!

I should be working but as I did an interview for Mr JP Fear on Vital Villa I adapted that for the use on this article.
