In the Vital Blackburn End of Season Awards we now make it onto the player awards and the voting threw up some interesting results.

With the Rovers defence being a bit hit and miss (and I am being kind here) it is only fair to say that the category of defender of the season would require some imaginative thinking from voters.

With Chris Samba, Michel Salgado, Ryan Nelsen, the now departed Phil Jones and bearded warrior Gael Givet all playing big parts in the season there was plenty of choice of who to pick from.

Voting however turned into a straight fight between man mountain Chris Samba and genuine nut case Michel Salgado.

Tit for tat and vote for vote was exchanged but we do have a winner.

The Vital Blackburn award for Defender of the Season goes to… The King of Spain Michel Salgado.

Well done to Michel for a cracking season long effort at right back – he may be shy of a yard of pace in his mid 30’s but with timing, class, effort and a never say die attitude it has to be said this is deserved.

  • Well played to Salgado, he’s a definite favourite and cult hero at Ewood after a difficult start to life in England last season.

  • He’s just awesome. I can only see him having a positive impact on the players around him on the training pitch as well. Must be inspiring to work with such a quality player with a trophy laden career.

  • Won the most tackles out of any player in the Premier League last season, free transfer signing, always gives 100% every game! hopefully we can win the FA or League cup this season as Salgado deserves to win a trophy with us! brilliant brilliant player!
