Vital Blackburn Winners and Losers

There are a lot of emotions going round in the head after yesterdays 6-2 loss at the hands of Arsenal. First off, don’t buy into the media dross that Arsenal were amazing and Blackburn had no answer.

Yes, Arsenal were unbelievable at times but Rovers far from overawed. Only in the last twenty minutes, when Arsenal should of been down to ten men and Rovers could of been at 3-3 were Rovers finally over ran by an excellent side as the legs tired.

But here at winners and losers my job is to pick through the bones and see who deserves a big up and who deserves a swift back hand. Lets get to it…

WINNERS

DAVID DUNN –
Before he was inexplicably subbed he was immense again. The position he plays in means we cant play 4-4-2 but as long as he plays to this standard we shouldn’t play 4-4-2!? Does that make sense?

Anything good that Rovers did went throught the quick feet of Dunn. He caused the more defensive side of Arsenal all sorts of problems and was a terrier tracking back as well.

Its a good job he is a Rovers fan as on this seasons form he would not look out of place in the Arsenal side or any of the top 4/5 for that matter.

Good goal, good creativity and excellent work rate. Another storming afternoon for the ‘winners column’ main stay.

PAUL ROBINSON –Has a goalkeeper ever played so good and conceded six goals? I think it is fair to say that bar some questionable positioning for the Arsenal fourth Robbo could of done nothing with any of the goals.

Apart from that Robbo pulled off at least six excellent saves to keep the score respectable to an extent.

He looks thinner than ever and is still this season the best English goalkeeper their is – not that the English media will actually notice again but never mind.

Either way, he shone despite the heavy scoreline.

PASCAL CHIMBONDA – Bit of a personal choice this one. Shifted to centre back due to the injuries to Nelsen and Samba and in my eyes put in a sterling shift. He was eventually tamed but his positioning was good and his reading of the game is a lot better than I gave him credit for.

He sometimes struggled in the air with the high ball but that should not ditract from the fact that on the whole he was a worthy replacement.

Yes I do understand the irnoy that we shifted six goals but that was an unfair reflection on the game as a whole and Pascals’ performance.

LOSERS

LARS JACOBSEN –
His intentions were good but in his attempts to press on he got caught twice for two of the goals conceded. He is certainly enthusiastic and his tackling is firm but he perhaps needs to evaluate with more care when is a good time to bomb forward and when it is best to hang fire to protect his position – especially against Arsenal.

I am sure this is only a fleeting stop in the ‘losers section’ but he was shown up a little yesterday.

KEITH ANDREWS –Frustrating stuff from Keith. He was up against a man on a mission on Sunday pitching against Cesc Fabregas but the reason I am pulling him up this week is for his lack of intelligent use of the ball.

Everytime he seemed to get the ball and the best thing to do was to go with the short pass he tried something tricky, and it didnt come off. Unfortunately the same applies to the opposite for Andrews as well, everytime the best option was to press on and try something ambitious with a longer pass, he went for the short option!

This might be just me but I was banging my head against a brick wall with Keith yesterday.

Come on mate, I have seen you do better than this.

FRANCO DI SANTO –He was left a little isolated yesterday which is not really his fault but he didnt show the same sort of skill and awareness that he did v Villa.

You could argue that Arsenals’ two centre back didn’t let him but then he needs to create more space for himself with his running to counter act that.

There was no problems with his work rate, it has been effective since he came here but the reason he is in here for my money is his application of his efforts yesterday.

Super player, just not his best day at the office.
