Friday will see a big relegation six pointer between Burton and Blackburn. The Brewers will remain outside of the bottom three whatever the result – holding a five point advantage – but know defeat could bring them right back into trouble. Rovers will be under new boss Tony Mowbray for the first time but goal difference would keep his side in the bottom three even if he started with a win at the Pirelli Stadium.
Another game on Friday will see a derby between Wolves and Birmingham at Molineux. Wolves’ three successive defeats means they are only five points clear of trouble with the Blues visiting having lost five of their last six.
The early kick off on Saturday will see promotion rivals Leeds and Sheffield Wednesday meet at Elland Road. The Yorkshire rivals have a healthy lead on the play-off chasing pack but any automatic promotion chances – with both 10 points off the top two – require a win.
With Brighton not in action until later in the day Newcastle have the chance to extend their lead at the top against struggling Bristol City. Successive defeats for the Robins means they head to St James’ Park having lost seven of the last 10.
Five successive Aston Villa defeats – seven in a nine game winless run have been lost – means Steve Bruce’s side are in serious danger of being dragged into the relegation battle. Derby’s faltering play-off hopes – they are 10 points off the top six – require a Rams win at Villa Park.
Barnsley’s chances of making the play-offs were dealt a blow with a defeat in their last game. Huddersfield head to Oakwell well placed to secure a top six finish but Town’s midweek win means they are just four points off an automatic promotion spot.
After a first win in four Brentford will look to add to that at Griffin Park against rock bottom Rotherham. The Millers – who have won just once in the last 10 and four times all season – are effectively 16 points off safety given their poor goal difference.
Cardiff are now closer to the play-offs than the relegation zone with a midtable – if not top 10 – finish looking possible. Fulham will visit the Cardiff City Stadium – looking to end the Bluebirds’ three game winning run – six points off the top six seeking a fourth successive win too.
Preston have lost just once in the last 10 but a number of draws means North End are nine points off the play-offs. Hopes of achieving this will improve if a win is secured over QPR. However, back-to-back victories for the R’s have eased relegation fears and taken them 10 points clear of the bottom three.
Potential relegation rivals Wigan and Nottingham Forest meet at the City Ground. The Latics are in the bottom three – two points from safety – with Forest six points clear of trouble but on a three game losing run ahead of this game at the DW Stadium.
Brighton could return to the top of the Championship in the late kick off if Newcastle drop points earlier in the day. But it’ll be a tough game against promotion rivals Reading who head to the Amex Stadium eight points behind Albion with automatic promotion hopes revived – after a midweek defeat – if the Royals can secure the points.
The action is rounded off on Sunday with another derby as Norwich and Ipswich meet at Carrow Road. The Canaries’ first defeat in seven means they’ll go into this game at least seven points off the top six. The Tractor Boys are unbeaten in four with three of these games drawn.
It goes without saying the expectation; most definitely the hope at least, will be for a positive result. But will this happen? We’ll find out soon enough.
Ahead of the game we’re looking for your views on what way you think it will go, which requires you to vote in the latest poll in one of the options you have been given.
However, don’t just look also have a say. We don’t just want your vote, which you can do to the right, we also want some thoughts and views ahead of the game as well so share these below.
