Blackburn’s Championship season got underway with an Ewood Park defeat against Wolves on Saturday.

This was a defeat in very controversial circumstances as the Wolves winner was quite clearly finished by Edwards’ hand, the play himself mouthed that he’d done this as he ‘scored’ the winner in this two-one setback for Bowyer’s side.

Wolves went ahead through the lethal, from last season with MK Dons on loan and then Wolves when he signed from Arsenal, Afobe with Conway credited with the Blackburn equaliser before that Evans winner at the end of the first half.

Rhodes, who continues to be linked with a move to Middlesbrough, almost got Rovers off to a flyer but his strike from 25-yards with Ikeme well beaten smacked against the post with Duffy twice threatening from defence.

Afobe (29), scorer of no less than 32-goals for MK Dons and Wolves last season, opened the scoring just before the half hour mark when he beat Raya, who was the ‘keeper that Bowyer went with.

Debutant Delfouneso went on a driving run from just inside the Wolves half, which was ended by a good covering challenge but this dropped to Conway (39) and he had a shot that looped up and Ikeme made a harsh of dealing with. This could have been an own goal from the Wolves ‘keeper but the Scottish midfielder was awarded this.

The, ultimately, winning goal came when Edwards (45) diverted Dicko’s cross into the net with his hand on half time.

Rovers again threatened an equaliser with Ikeme saving from Rhodes with Henry almost sealing the point for the visitors but his effort struck the crossbar with Rovers’ young ‘keeper Raya beaten.

As the game moved into injury-time Koita almost marked his debut, from the bench, with a goal but his low drive clipped the outside of the post with Evans missing the last chance to get something at the death.
