With Akpan fouled by Ipswich’s Toure a chance came for Blackburn to take an early lead from the penalty spot. Rhodes (12) made no mistake as he converted his latest goal to put Rovers ahead.

It was soon two with Rhodes (16) heading Conway’s cross past Gerken for his seventh-goal of the season four-minutes later to leave Blackburn in control.

The best chance Ipswich had, to get back into the game, saw Murphy denied with Blackburn ‘keeper Steele make a fine save to keep the lead intact and ensure there wouldn’t be any nerves.

A hat-trick would have been secured by Rhodes if he wasn’t denied by the post! A 20-yard curler had Ipswich ‘keeper Gerken beaten but this struck the frame of the goal with Steele against saving to keep out a Parr effort.
