With Leicester loanee Lawrence off the field, injured, Blackburn were ahead when ironically enough Pickford (31) became the first person to beat himself in the Preston goal after six straight cleansheets!

A one-nil lead was something Blackburn were able to take into the half time break.

The second half couldn’t have started any better a chance to extend the lead came early on when Preston defender Huntington brought down Taylor in the box with Rhodes (51), as he often if, clinical from the penalty spot to grad that – as it proved to be – decisive second goal!

Preston had renewed hope at the midway point of the second have when Garner (67), formerly a Blackburn player, pulled one back for the hosts but when Wright was sent off for his second yellow card soon after this meant the Lilywhites had to play out the game with 10-men and this made a job harder.
