The Blackburn run in the FA Cup is over for another year after the fifth round defeat against West Ham at Ewood Park on Sunday.

The thoughts of Blackburn causing an FA Cup upset were on….for a few minutes anyway when Ben Marshall put Rovers ahead! But West Ham roared back into the game, which saw both sides end with 10-men, to win five-one in the end to leave us ‘concentrating on the league’ now.

Marshall, who brought the ball down brilliantly, had Blackburn ahead on 20-minutes but by half time Victor Moses and Dimitri Payet, with a freekick, had West Ham two-one up.

Rovers went down to 10-men early in the second half when Chris Taylor saw for his second yellow then just past the hour Emmanuel Emenike made it three to pretty much finish it.

Cheikhou Kouyate’s sending off, when he got a straight red card, made no difference with for the Hammer with Emenike adding his second on 85-minutes and Payet ended the day by adding the fifth in injury-time to put the 1980 winners into the quarter finals.

These were the other fifth round results.

It didn’t entirely go as planned (on Saturday) did it with holders Arsenal (nil-nil) forced to a replay against Championship side Hull, who the Gunners of course beat in the final a couple of years back.

Fellow Premier League side West Brom were upset by another club from the second tier with last season’s semi finalist Reading (three-one) winning at the Madejski Stadium to remain on course for the last four once more!

Normal service was resumed (on Sunday), no Championship upset with West Ham (five-one) safely into the quarter finals with a comfortable win over Blackburn at Ewood Park with Crystal Palace (one-nil) ensuring Spurs can’t be on for a domestic double winning at White Hart Lane.

Who was the Rovers MotM in this game? That’s what the latest poll is asking so do cast a vote.

Did a starter, or someone from the bench, offer the most?
