The Championship season continued with the latest round of games played over the weekend.
Newcastle were surprisingly beaten by Blackburn, however they remain ahead of Brighton at the top. Wigan, despite a win on Monday, stay in the bottom three with Cardiff and Rotherham.

Friday started the Championship action with Nottingham Forest off to a flyer at Oakwell, extending the unbeaten run to three games and recording back-to-back wins in the process after a 5-2 victory at Barnsley.
Newcastle went into the weekend on a club record equalling run of nine wins in a row, they couldn’t make it 10 when Blackburn went away from St James’ Park with a 1-0 win on Saturday.
This gave Brighton a chance to reduce the lead to two points, which they achieved. Albion saw off Fulham 2-1 at the Amex Stadium with this victory meaning, despite Reading making it five wins in a row against Bristol City and only one defeat in eight, the Seagulls remain four points ahead of the third placed Royals.
Aston Villa’s, apparent, surge to the play-offs under Steve Bruce continued. His unbeaten start as Villa boss went on with a 3-1 win over Cardiff, which means the Bluebirds are now second-bottom.
Birmingham inflicted more misery on Brentford, the Bees’ winless run at home was extended as the Blues won 2-1 at Griffin Park to take them up to fourth with Leeds now into the play-off positions and up to fifth. The Whites’ 2-1 win at Rotherham, who have now lost nine of their last 10 games, means the Millers are 11 points from safety.
The improvement of Derby since the return of Steve McClaren continued as the Rams closed in on a top six place, a 1-0 win at the iPro Stadium meant Norwich dropped out of the play-off places. The Canaries rivals are Ipswich, Mick McCarthy needed a win with him getting that when the Tractor Boys ran out 3-0 winners at Portman Road against QPR.
Preston, who have lost just once in the last 10 games, had to settle for a second Deepdale draw running. PNE were held to a 1-1 draw by Burton with Wolves, the side who drew with the Lilywhites the week prior, beaten in Paul Lambert’s first game in charge at Molineux when Sheffield Wednesday went away with a 2-0 win.
Wednesday are now hot on the heels of, and just a point behind, rivals Huddersfield, who continue to slide down the table. This 2-1defeat on Monday at struggling Wigan, who are now only in the bottom three on goal difference, extended the Town run to just one win in the last seven.
