Blackburn’s Championship season continued with a defeat against Derby at the iPro Stadium on Wednesday.

The points went to Derby in midweek as the Rams’ early goal in the first half proved enough to give them a one-nil win over Blackburn.

As Blackburn weren’t able to clear danger significantly, when the ball dropped to Jacob Butterfield the Derby midfielder fired past Jason Steele to give Derby the lead inside 10-minutes.

That goal was indeed, in the end, enough to give the Rams the points and see Rovers unable to react to the heavy FA Cup defeat to West Ham and build on the league win over Fulham before this.

Danny Graham had a great chance to draw Blackburn level, having created an opening, but he couldn’t hit the target whereas another loanee from Sunderland was denied in injury-time by the crossbar.

Jordi Gomez saw his header hit the bar with in now only one win in 11-matches for Rovers in the league.

These were the other results.

There couldn’t have been a better reaction from Brighton (four-nil) to the heavy defeat against Cardiff could there than the win secured at in-form Bristol City to keep them very much in the automatic promotion race. On the topic of Cardiff (three-one) on the other hand, they couldn’t build on that to keep in the play-off picture as they lost to one of Albion’s rivals for a top two place Middlesbrough, who collected the points at the Riverside Stadium.

Hull (one-nil) continued to lead the way though ahead of both and Burnley (one-nil) in second after wins against Ipswich and Nottingham Forest, respectively.

Bolton (one-nil) couldn’t celebrate a takeover with them beaten at Birmingham but relegation rivals Rotherham (one-nil) at Reading and Charlton (two-one) at Preston didn’t see the hopes of staying up improve either. Preston must have a mention as that win now means they’ve got one eye on the play-offs after a fourth straight win!

On Wednesday Derby (one-nil), winning at home for the first time this year, kept up the pressure on a possible top two finish with a win against Blackburn.
