Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth will now ‘focus on the league’ as they say (until the FA Cup anyway) after a surprise three-two defeat to Preston in a match that swung one-way then the other before the Lilywhites won it in extra time at Dean Court to book a fourth round place.

Liverpool made sure Derby wouldn’t be another Championship side causing an upset with a three-nil win at the iPro Stadium but Merseyside rivals Everton did crash out after a two-nil defeat at Goodison Park saw a former player (Steven Naismith) among the goals for Norwich as they advanced and ended the Toffees’ unbeaten start to the season,

A recent revival in form for Leeds in the league continued with a third straight win in all competitions after a late winner against Blackburn in the all-Championship tie, a repeat of a recent league meeting that was also won late by the home side at Elland Road.

Chelsea reacted to a first Premier League defeat of the season (when they lost to Liverpool) by coming from two-down to win at Leicester. Two early goals in extra time from Cesc Fabregas completed a comeback in a four-two win at the King Power Stadium.

There wasn’t any upset whatsoever at the City Ground with Arsenal cruising to a convincing four-nil win against Nottingham Forest.

Wednesday night wasn’t the night for upsets as we didn’t see any at all….

I guess at a push you could say the Bristol City win at Fulham could be viewed as one but with the Robins starting the Championship season well the two-one win at Craven Cottage isn’t that surprising, is it?

A Northampton upset is what the TV cameras were looking for and despite drawing level at one point a couple of second half goals made sure Manchester United advanced to the next round with a three-one win at Sixfields with Manchester City’s two-one win at Swansea setting up a Manchester derby following the draw.

Sunderland needed a win and David Moyes got one at QPR, this two-one win at Loftus Road will be one he hopes to take forward into the Premier League with a dramatic West Ham winner deep into injury-time against Accrington perhaps easing some pressure on Slaven Bilic too!

There wasn’t any let up for Stoke though, a late Hull goal saw them to a two-one win at the Bet365 Stadium seeing Mark Hughes’ Potters beaten once again.
