Blackburn Rovers left-back Stephen Warnock has been recalled to the England squad.

Warnock has been in superb form for Rovers since he signed from Liverpool in January 2007 and has earned a recall to the squad for the first time since he was selected as a Liverpool player under Sven Goran Eriksson.

The fact that he never made it into Steve McClaren’s England squads at all surprised many people, but now his efforts for Rovers over the past 14-months or so have been rewarded with a call-up by Fabio Capello for the International friendlies with the USA and Trinidad and Tobago at the end of this month, and the start of next month.

Stevie W is the second Rovers player in the squad, with David Bentley once again named in the squad, which is a 31-man one.
