Blackburn Rovers let-back Stephen Warnock hopes that manager Mark Hughes remains at Ewood Park despite the speculation linking him with the vacant jobs at two other Premier League clubs.

Warnock has said that Hughes was one of the key factors in his signing for Rovers in the first place, and his signing of a new four-year contract extension in the last few weeks was signed with the view that Sparky would be around for the foreseeable future, however, it’s looking increasingly like Sparky will be going to Man City now.

Warnock told BBC Radio Lancashire “I signed a new contract under the impression that Mark’s going to be our manager.

“I’m happy to be at the club because I’m enjoying playing for the manager.

“It’s not that I don’t enjoy the club itself but he was the reason I came to the club. I wanted to play for him. I respected him as a player and I respect what he’s doing as a manager.

“Fingers crossed he’ll stay but obviously if he’s given permission to speak to another club then you just never know what can happen
.”

Even if Sparky doesn’t go to Man City having requested permission to speak to them in the first place I personally feel that it will be difficult for him to return to have as much command and respect as he did before these talks?!?! Once you make it clear that you would be willing to go elsewhere your full commitment has been proven to no longer be all it once was.

What with all this talk about Sparky and him maybe leaving the fact that Stevie W made his England International debut on Sunday evening has been missed, but he DID. This first senior International cap was gained when he came on as a substitute for the closing moments in the 3-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago. That meant that Rovers were represented by two players that evening, as David Bentley had already come on at half time in that match.

  • Stevie W we ALL hope that Sparky stays but I don’t think its looking that good. Much like I said though, the fact that he has asked to be able to speak to them could also make it difficult for him to return even if he doesn’t take the job with man City, as I think that he probably will anyway. It was also great to see Stevie W make his LONG overdue England debut.

  • VERY true dude, I don’t know if I should say when or if Sparky goes I do have MAJOR concerns about who will join him?!?!

  • were going to losea few players if we dont get the right man in!! and at the moment i dont knnow who that is.

when was the last time we had two players playing for england?? it must have been a while ago now!?

  • Lets keep positive guys. We are an attractive proposition to manage, good players, great board, potential takeover in the future. Good location. Lets keep the faith, if we appoint the right guy then no-one will leave.

  • I’m having to chief!!!… It’s not as bad as every one is making out. We can actually progress in these circumstances if the board get it right.
