Stephen Warnock has urged Blackburn to kick off another unbeaten run against Bolton on Sunday in order to keep their European hopes alive.

Rovers’ seven-match streak came to an end against Arsenal two weeks ago but Warnock says his team-mates have returned refreshed from a sunshine break in Florida and can get back on track.

Warnock told Blackburn’s official website: ‘I think results went against us the other week but the way we look at it is we are only five points away from fifth place in the league.

‘I think the lads know now that we are capable of going on another run after a game like the one against Arsenal. We did that last year but we let ourselves down when we really should have qualified for Europe automatically.’

Rovers’ season looked in danger of tailing off into oblivion during a poor end to 2007 but a much-improved festive programme breathed new life into boss Mark Hughes’ troops.

Now sitting in ninth place in the Premier League table, Warnock insists there is no reason why Rovers cannot hit form at the right time and reclaim that UEFA Cup berth.

He added: ‘If we go on a decent run then the teams around us will slip at various points because they are all doing it. So we’ve got to be strong enough to finish sixth and I’m sure we’re very capable of doing that.’

Mikey Thoughts

The need to string a few reults together is crucial particularly with what Sparky considers to be winnable games in the next month or so. Staying unbeaten is one thing bu we need to turn the draws into wins if we want to go that extra step.
