Blackburn defender Stephen Warnock admits the club will find it difficult to replace Roque Santa Cruz.

The Paraguay international is again subject to a bid from Man City and Spurs are also interested. The smart money however is a move to City and this move could happen really soon if reports are to be believed.

Warnock feels that the only solution is for Sam to work his old magic and pull in the bargains.

Warnock, speaking to Sky Sports said – ‘It is going to be difficult to keep Roque,’

‘He has stated he wants a new challenge where he could possibly play Champions League and he has more than proved himself in the Premier League.

‘He is a player I admire tremendously and I think he is a fantastic player.

‘As to how much, if he is sold we just have to wait and see, Mark Hughes did a great job of finding bargain players but it is very hard to keep on doing that.’

In an interesting little side note, Stephen feels the club should be pushing for Europe next season.

He continued – ‘We have got to be looking to push on for Europe, our form in the second-half of the season showed that,’

Anyone doubting Warnock’s commitment to the cause here at Rovers should pay attention to that last comment.

  • Whilst I admit that Roque is a very talened player I dont thinkit is going to be the end of the world when he leaves. We have shown time and time again that we have a great scoutng network and tha bargain can be found…

  • Yes Mikey, however didn’t Hughes take most of his scouts with him when he went to Man City? We need a striker that will score 15-20 goals a season minimum. Also, if we’re to be playing more long ball he needs to be able to hold the ball up and be good in the air. Roque ticks all those boxes, and for that reason I hope he stays. But if he goes he goes, I just hope we are able to find a decent replacement who won’t be wanting a move after a successful season… (bellamy, Benni, Roque!)

  • He did FN1 yes but Sam has a good one too and this Di Santo lad is 6 foot 4 – sounds like a Roque replacement to me!!!!

  • his aerial ability is exceptional, but don’t forget we essentially played the entire season without him last season.

  • I agree with the last comment there, Roque will be missed but not as much as wot is being painted, he only had 1 good season with us, then Benni outscored him this season just past – i know Roque was injured but Benni was dropped!! Im sure Sam will get in another player capable of scoring a good number of goals for us, cos when we have a fully fit team we can and do create a good few chances – there are a lot of good players out there, ones hopefully with a bit more loyality!! Im not sure on this Di Santo kid, im just a bit wary after the Simpson debacle ( use of big word lol ), is he good? is it cos he plays for Chelsea? im sure given the chance Derbyshire would score double figure goals this season coming, along with Roberts ( if fully fit ) and a focused Benni ( if not get rid now ) we should be ok….. we do need another though – has Rigters been sold?? Rovers are capable of attracting a decent crop of players, Sam has a great rep around Europe, so i dont think we should worry too much……

  • should say that i read that Chelsea want to add a ‘must play’ clause to the loan deal – dunno about this!! if they want that I think we should ask for a ‘1st option to buy’ clause as well…. only fair i think, we we are being used to develop the player then we should possibly/at least get an option to steal him…..

  • We have a first option to loan thing on this – Spurs, Villa and City are after him as well. We could be in for a steal here guys. All the guys on Vital Chelseas really seem to rate him as well if you look at the Di Santo link on there”
