Weekends Winners And Losers

Well I think we were beaten by a better side on Sunday, Chelsea look like champions so I don’t think we should be too downheartened. We had out moments and could of taken something from the game if we took what we created but it happens.

Two issues that have bugged me though from Sundat is the egotistical muppet Frank Lampard not shaking Vince Grella’s hand after a firm challenge and Nicolas Anelka’s ‘stone-wall’ penalty when he tripped himself?!? Good god.. what a load of rubbish.

Anyway, there would some good and not so good performances on Sunday from the Blue and White army… lets see.

WINNERS

PAUL ROBINSON –
Leaving aside his mistake for the first goal where he could of got the ball, he was immense. He commanded the area, pulled off 5 superb saves and looked like a man re-born.

Spurs fans may ask – is that the same guy that was shocking in net for us last season? It is guys and it is amazing what fresh confidence does for your performance.

Robinson needed the move here to a low profile, unfashionable club away from the glare of playing for Spurs to get his game back on track – it is clearly starting to work…

All together now – ENGLANDS’ NUMBER ONE, ENGLANDS ENGLANDS NUMBER ONE!

MARTIN OLSSON –A rather unsung performance this one. He did a very tidy shift at left back and will have erased from the memory that lacklustre display against Man United last month.

He shackled the threat of Boswinga and created some good space for Morten to run into as well, which in turn allowed Gamst to have a better than usual game.

More of this please Super Swede…

MORTEN GAMST PEDERSEN – Thats a bit more like it. He still needs to be a bit tougher in the tackle but on the whole he was lively, looked to take people on and whipped the ball in with pace. Santa Cruz would of loved some of those crosses.

Sasman mentioned that he feels it is a confidence issue with Morten but I just think that he didn’t have the right person in front of goal to take advantage of what he was offering – Derbyshire, Santa and Benni Mac would of profited a lot more from fast crosses than Jason Roberts.

When I visit Ewood on saturday for Sunderland at home – I expect to see him play like this. If he does, then we could be on to something here.

LOSERS

ROBBIE FOWLER –
I am sorry Robbie. I shall keep this short, I have the upmost respect for what you have done in your career but…

You are overweight and need to raise your game. Robbie looked about 2 yards of the pace on Sunday and it shows. Come on Robbie – earn that long contract mate when you are given your chance.

KEITH ANDREWS – Very good against Aston Villa and West Brom but was nowhere to be seen against Chelsea.

He wasn’t on his own in the midfield but Carlos and Warnock did things to drive Rovers on, sadly for Keith though, it just didn’t work for him.

He has done a lot the last few weeks to silence the boo boys but he found the going tough. When Ince bought Matty on we looked a lot more dangerous.

JASON ROBERTS –I can never fault J-Rob’s work rate and the tough time he gave Terry. He caused problems for the Chelsea defence but he really needs to work on the shooting radar… if any of the other 3 strikers would of had that one on one on Sunday they would of finished in style.

Come on Jason, another chance to prove yourself tomorrow night and show us why you are worth that new contract.

Thats it for this week guys. No doubt that the usual debate will follow, bring it on VB universe.
