Weekend’s Winners And Losers

Well a great result and a great PERFORMANCE. For the first time in ages we got the two elements together. 3-1 when down to 10 men is a great achievement and one that unfortunately will get forgotten by the media by next weekend. Bear in mind it was against a rapidly improving Wigan side and you have got one good weekend.

But never the less. Lets crack on and see which 3 took the honours for the right reasons and who took them for the less desireable methods.

WINNERS

DAVID BENTLEY –
No major suprise here guys. Was it really going to be anyone else? As soon as Rovers went down to ten men he took the game by the scruff of the neck and drove us forward. Make no mistake if Bentley wasn’t on the pitch we wouldn’t of won on Saturday. Passing, running, shooting, free kicks, corners and movement were all excellent and he made the difference as no-one else could.

The only problem now is with him playing so well, how long can we hold onto him?

Its going to be a nervous summer as along with Dimitar Berbatov he is going to be a hot property as he develops into one of the League’s best players.

Get him to sign that contract Mr.Hughes. Then we can all rest easy.

STEPHEN WARNOCK –Every week he is solid, reliable and is the main reason why Morten is back on track, yet gets no mention from the media or anywhere???

Is Nicky Shorey really any better than him? The answer is no and really it’s high time he was in that England squad. His runs were well timed and he didn’t put a foot wrong in defence all day on Saturday. I plead with the Rovers fans to start the following chant next weekend at Reading…

‘England’s number 3, England’s England’s number 3’.

ROQUE SANTA CRUZ –That’s my boy!!!! One goal against West Ham and we all said the other week that he would kick on from there. He was in the right place at the right time twice on Saturday and that is all testament to the confidence coming back. His movement was great and his touch was assured. He should of had a hat trick but that is purely nit picking. If he hadn’t of had that little dry run in Januray and Febuary then he would be up there with Torres in the goalscorers’ charts. He only has 2 more to get to reach that 20 goal mark that all strikers aim for.

Welcome back.

LOSERS

CHRIS SAMBA –
Yes, Heskey hit the floor like a fairy ballerina that had been shot with an axe bullet but putting your arm across a player from behind when you are the last man is begging for trouble. And he paid the price.

He left us in a perilous position which we luckily and through our own merits got ourselves out of in the end but 75 minutes with 10 men is a long time.

If we had of lost Chris would of been the first person to blame. Maybe this forced 3 game ban might help him get the rest he so clearly needs and come back the Chris we all know is a monster at the back.

BENNI MCCARTHY –Memo to Benni – watch your mate Jason, see the work rate he puts in and the unselfish attitude he plays with and please copy. If you did that you would be on 20 goals already this term and you wouldn’t get a 1 minute run out at the end of the game… you’d get the full 90.

ZURAB KHIZANISHVILLI –He isn’t in here because of anything he has done wrong. Far from it, he has been Blackburn’s 2nd best defender recently behind England’s new number 3. In the last 6/7 games where he has been played in his preffered centre back role he has been immense.

This is all speculation at this point but when Ryan Nelsen comes back, Samba returns from suspension and Emerton returns from his niggles there is one man who will suffer most and lose his place in the team again.

And that person is Blackburn Rovers’ most underrated player.

Well Lads and Ladies, that is all for this week. Get ready for Mini Tour Part Two at Reading on Saturday and I’ll look forward to seeing who’s done what next week.
