Weekend’s Winners And Losers

Well a point against Reading and good results (for us) in the Aston Villa and Man City matches and we’re now in 7th. The point gained in a 0-0 draw was a lot better than some people are suggesting. While it wasn’t the greatest game in the world, there were still players who did themselves proud and others who are cursing their luck / lack of opportunities / poorness in general.

Having said that lets crack on and see whats happening, who is a winner and who is a loser this week?

WINNERS

RYAN NELSEN –
Well the captain is back and it is no suprise that his return resulted in a clean sheet at the back. whilst he didn’t have his finest performance by any means he looked solid, made no mistakes and took charge of everything. Ryan won everything in the air and gave the back 4 leadership that has been missing recently.

Is it any coincidence that the minute he slots back into the Rovers defence that his centre back partner looks a millions times more comfortable???

JASON ROBERTS –Didn’t score but really did everything but. If he wasn’t playing so well Matt Derbyshire would of been given a chance by now to partner the Santa.

He offers everything upfront that Benni doesn’t, yes his technique isn’t great but he gives defenders a very tough time and offers power, hold up play, support work and… ready for it Benni…. Work rate.

In all fairness probably the best player on the pitch on Saturday and deserved a goal. Has guaranteed himself a start against Spurs, if he keeps playing this well he’ll stay in the starting line up until the end of the season.

MORTEN GAMST PEDERSEN –If ever the phrase ‘he needs a goal’ applied to anyone it WAS Morten. The lightweight Norwegian was frankly terrible up until the Bolton game where a last minute goal cued mass celebrations and a relieved Morten.

So what have we had since that Bolton goal?

Well to put it bluntly, a much improved Morten Gamst Pedersen. His crosses are better, his free kicks are leaving the ground and he visibly plays with more and more confidence. If we see more of this we can expect to see once again what all the fuss was about when he arrived at Ewood in 2004. It is so important to us that he is on song as he offers genuine width to our play and compliments David Bentley so well.

Welcome back Mr.Gamst.

LOSERS

BENNI MCCARTHY –
Not enjoying that time on the bench are you Benni Mac??

Well i’m sorry matey but one of the reasons you are sat there is because of the mighty Jason Roberts but the other is a little bit more closer to home.

You have yourself to blame.

MATT DERBYSHIRE –Another one sat on the bench but provokes a different reaction from the fans. reaction this year is that Matty has been underutilised and I can only but agree. Scores everytime he comes on and would of been given a run in the team if not for a combination of injuries and Jason Roberts.

He plays with enthusiasm and has so much to offer. He will want more of a chance next season as not only he but WE are missing out on him not playing as much as he should.

This season’s most unlucky player.

DAVID DUNN –Just a minor gripe here guys but since that litle knock he picked up a few weeks back David has lacked that little spark that he needs in his play. Most of the creative play that comes from our Rovers side comes from David Bentley and Dunny himself and that was missing on Saturday from David himself.

I am sure it will return but perhaps David lacks of real impression on the game was the difference between one point and three?

Well guys, thats all for this week. Stay tuned for Mikey Tour part 2 as it should churn out some more good fun.

What do the regulars think of the Winners and Losers this week???
