Weekend’s Winners And Losers

Well guys, bit late this one (Sorry Boss), but work commitments meant it has been a difficult start to the week! Anyway a respectable point against a Spurs side playing without fear. I like to look at this as a point gained due to the fact we were a goal down. But it does place more emphasis on the Liverpool away and Man U home games.

Anyway, lets crack on and see who the winners and losers were this week…

WINNERS

DAVID BENTLEY –
Again the best player in Blue and white halves by a mile on Saturday and set up the all important equaliser. He general movement was class and his delivery was as ever clinical. The problem is with every headline grabbing piece of magic comes the attention of every other big club in Europe. It does look likely that he will leave but Hughes IS the man to persuade him to stay.

It goes without question that he loves Blackburn Rovers and everything he has done here. It is up to Hughes to persuade him we can crack on next year. I think Bentley knows he is on to a good thing as long as Hughes is here and for that reason I will go out on a limb and be the first to say…

He will stay.

MORTEN GAMST PEDERSEN –Why can’t you have played like this all season Morten? direct, great crossing, genuine width offered and a great work rate to match. If he had played like this all season we would be in the top 6 without question.

Having said that he is looking like the player that all the fuss was about when he first got here and 3 goals in 5 games is the kind of form we want to see.

If he can carry that on into next season then you’re more than welcome to that new contract Mr.Gamst.

RYAN NELSEN –Absolute collosus in defence and looked like a rock through out. Kept cool and stood tall while Samba, Warnock and Ooijer were having relatively poor games by their high standards.

Anyone who questioned why he was rested for a long period need only watch a tape of this game. The captain is back and I for one am so glad. We look such a tighter unit with him in there at the back.

LOSERS

ZURAB KHIZANISHVILLI –
What did I say the other week. Has done nothing wrong, showed great awareness and positioning and was a great deputy for Ryan when he was out.

Only problem now is that he is back where he started and didn’t do anything to deserve being shunted out of the team. Nelsen and Zurab have always made a good combo at the back and should of presented the clearly tired Chris Samba with a good rest to re-charge the batteries.

He is unfortunate that he plays in a position where Blackburn have good strength in depth, for instance if he played as a full time left winger he would of played more or less all the time this season.

Blackburn Rovers’ most underrated player is also their unluckiest player.

ANDRE OOIJER – frankly looked a bit rubbih in the first halfand struggled to cope with the impressive Malbranque on the Spurs left. Hence why the much pacier Brett Emerton was bought on at half time.

He looked sloppy and off the pace for a bit. In fairness he did brighten up a bit towards the end of the first half but it was too late to avoid his withdrawl.

Come on Andre… we know you’re beter than that.

STEPHEN WARNOCK –Did not have one of his better days at the office on Saturday and looked a little perplexed at the pace of the lightening Aaron Lennon (if only our own Aaron was as pacy hey!?!?). Ever since I bigged him up after the Wigan match he has looked a little lacklustre… known as the Steven Reid curse, every time he bigs someone/the team up, we lose or play badly or both.

Understandably Stephen is suffering a bit fom playing more or less every game since August which is why he wll benefit from a more active inclusion of Martin Olsson next season. Strength in depth is the key and a rest for 2/3 games would see Stephen come back fresher. hughes will need to strengthen if we are to maintain form for longer periods next season.

Same as Andre really for Warnock, bit of an off day, but we know he can do better.

Thanks for reading guys. For those of you wondering where the Mikey Mini Tour is, I have decided to combine parts 2 and 3 together to incorporate this Sunday’s trip to Liveprool in as well and also to allow for my busy schedule last week and this.

I’ll look forward to writing it, hopefully you’ll look forward to reading it.
