Weekends Winners and Losers

This is a new feature that I will be running every weekend that Rovers play, if they play in mid week then I’ll include that as well…

These are the rules.

I will pick 3 players who have done themselves proud and have gone up in the estimation of fans, media etc and have had a good week – The Winners.

I will then pick 3 players who have perhaps not done what was expected of them or have done their chances harm for whatever reason – The Losers.

WINNERS

– Morten Gamst Pedersen. Having not scored in the League all season and generally not playing well or to the standard expected of him, he returned with a vengance in the 4-1 win over Bolton at Ewood Park on Sunday. Sharp crosses, Good running and a goal. Welcome back Morten!!!

– Benni McCarthy. Has been struggling to reproduce the form of last season and more importantly the goals of last season. He did himself no harm with 2 penalties converted and a hungry performance that the fans warmed to. This is the McCarthy we want to see. If only as Spinaker said in the forum… he would now score from open play.

– David Dunn. There was an article in the paper this morning about how Dunny wanted to play more for the team than himself, something he has struggled with in the past. Well he answered the critics with a man of the match performance on Sunday. Surging runs and the driving force behind the team, he reminded me of the Dave Dunn of the early 2000’s… more please Dave.

LOSERS

– Chris Samba. Now while hardly terrible he looked incredibly nervous which led to the Bolton onslaught in the first 15 mins of the 2nd half. In the first half he was solid but when the going got a bit tough he did start to flounder somewhat. By the end of the game he was back to business but I have seen him play much better.

– Stephen Warnock. Very hit and miss on Sunday. Some of the runs he made were excellent and helped Gamst to his level of performance but some of his passes were wayward and he was at fault for Kev Davies’s goal. We know what he can do on his best day but some lapses did cost him here.

– Aaron Mokoena. Unfortunately, as soon as ‘The Axe’ came on the pitch there were chants from a small minority of fans singing ‘your not fit to wear the shirt’. Now whilst he is hardly technically the best player Rovers have, Sparky clearly likes him and he has attributes which suit games like the one against Bolton. This won’t help Aaron or the team. Having said that he made no real impact on the game… needs to do a lot more to make a regular spot in the team.

As always feedback is welcome whether good or bad. Hope you like guys.

Mikey.
