What’s Going On With Rovers?!

Previously this week I’ve spoken about Venky’s move to dispense with Sam Allardyce as Blackburn Rovers’ manager being either a masterstroke or a mistake.

At this moment in time I’m not sure I know what they’re playing at, however, I’m leaning towards it being a mistake!! A mistake that has no real plan in mind really (which we all understood wasn’t the case) and I can only think that too many disagreements were being had behind closed doors with Allardyce over January spending, even if this is being denied.

Many of us were hoping that the Rovers owners had something up their sleeves and their next move was already well in the pipeline. Conflicting stories (and we know how the newspapers like to mix I up) are really confusing. In some instances even those involved in the ownership of Rovers are quoted as saying things, however, they then deny this and that only leads to further confusion and chaos!!

The next manager at Ewood Park that they would like is (or was) understood to be someone that is British, however, strong talk of Diego Maradona was bandied about (partially confirmed and then denied) with Sven Goran Eriksson also mentioned, and ruled out. In all truthfulness I am basically left thinking that there are few British managers (better qualified than Big Sam) that would want to take on Rovers at the moment because there appears to be so much uncertainty about the direction that the club are actually taking.

Steve Kean may well turn out to be an inspired appointment on a temporary basis (and a full time appointment has already been ruled out, however, at the same time not) but why has the former Fulham, Real Sociedad and Coventry City coach apparently been appointed until the end of the season?! I’ll give Kean my full backing for as long as he’s in charge but things seem strange at Ewood. Rovers can’t rush into an appointment but it’s looking more and more as if there hasn’t been much real thought put into the decision to sack Big Sam and are Venky’s hoping that with Kean in charge he’ll merely be keen enough (no pun intended) to accept his lot and not be asking for much, if anything, during the transfer window??

I’m not becoming hysterical or viewing things with too much of a glass half empty approach (or at least trying not to), however, some meaningful structure behind the decision process isn’t looking that clear at the moment!! Actually all it seems to have done is cause friction among many areas at Ewood and it’s actually unsettled things that weren’t even remotely unsettled before this week!! What the knock-on consequences are of this could be something that is regretted??
