Damien Duff remains one of the most exciting players I’ve seen in a Blackburn Rovers shirt with the Ex-Chelsea, Newcastle United, Fulham and Republic of Ireland International still going strong.

Perhaps saying “going strong” isn’t entirely true but the (now) veteran winger isn’t hanging up his boots, which is something I’d thought he had done when he left Fulham a while back??

Duff had been in the Australian A-League with Melbourne City though it transpires but (in what is surely to be the last move he makes??) he’s returned to Ireland to sign an eighteen month contract with Shamrock Rovers.

Now thirty-six-years-old the winger has said he’s “as excited about this move as I have been about any in my career.”

I don’t think anyone can doubt that Duffer (certainly not a duffer by nature!!) has had a superb career, however, I do wonder what sort of a career it might yet have been but for his injury problems that always seemed to follow him around?? Even with these he was a superb footballer though.

I’d add he’s an all round good dude too as I’m sure I read the wages he’ll be earning back in his native Ireland with Shamrock are being donated to charity!! I know some will argue he doesn’t need them and can afford to do this but he’s under no obligation whatsoever to do this over the eighteen month contract he’s signed so full credit to him.
