At midnight tonight the summer transfer window will close until January 1st 2007. Despite his determination to do so Mark Hughes will face a race against time to bring in anyone.

What activity could we possibly see surrounding Ewood Park today as regards to players arriving?

Danny Mills: The former England International is available for transfer after being told by Stuart Pearce in the summer that he has no future with Manchester City. The experienced right-back would give Hughes another option, unless Lucas Neill does leave, in which case Mills and Zurab Khizinashvilli will then battle it out with Brett Emerton for the right-back berth.

Wael Gomaa: The Egyptian International has been linked with Rovers for sometime, and I really did see him arriving before midnight tonight, although this would now appear unlikely? A recent trial seemed not to come off and he reportedly ended up at St James’ Park with Newcastle United. Tottenham Hotspur could also be keen with compatriot Mido said to favour Gomaa linking up with him at Spurs. Latest reports claim a move will still take place to Ewood, but due to his International commitments at present this will not happen until January.

Although a creative midfielder and maybe even a midfield enforcer in the Tugay mould, but a younger model could have been very much beneficial any other names that arrive now will be a surprise, Kristoffer Haestad is still be linked briefly though. Both areas seem as though they will have to wait until at least January, although the midfield enforcer could possibly, and probably even will wait until next summer.
