Why Should Rovers Have Been Anxious?

Blackburn Rovers boss Mark Hughes is remaining cool and calm, and despite an indifferent start to the 2006-2007 campaign insists he was never “anxious” and why should he have been?

It’s a case of not getting too anxious and not getting too carried away at this stage in the season.

It’s very, very early. Five games is no reflection on how the league will actually shape up after 38 games.”

When speaking to Sky Sports News the above would be Sparky’s thoughts on the opening to Rovers’ season thus far, which after three games would see the club languishing in the bottom half of the table, bottom three and in fact rooted to the foot of the Premiership.

Although a win over Manchester City doesn’t change the season overnight it is a start, but nor would the beginning have been a definite sign of what would be to come. Hughes would also say:

There was no real concern from our point of view.

We knew we were in a false position and it was only a matter of time before we’d start climbing up the table.”

Meanwhile the newly installed right-back Brett Emerton has no regrets with his decision to sign a new contract at Ewood Park, and therefore rejecting a possible move to Middlesbrough:

There’s no denying there was interest, but that’s in the past now and I just want to concentrate on my career with Blackburn.

As far as my decision goes, I always wanted to stay at Blackburn, so it was an easy one to make, especially after what we achieved last season.

There’s also a great manager, coaching staff and players here. I enjoy my time and I’m happy to be here for another four seasons.

Hopefully it will be another good period for myself.”

Emerton would also speak of the fact that “this season has gone well” for him and he’s “enjoying his football.”

What price an Emerton goal against Middlesbrough tomorrow… roversman?
