Former Rovers chairman John Williams has admitted that he felt a bit emotional reading tributes to himself that were made by fans, players and the club.

Williams was at Ewood for 14 years but left last month with the new regime in place.

But Williams was pleased with his time at the club even if he was a little surprised!

John Williams is quoted on the Lancashire Telegraph website as saying – “Football boardrooms are not normally places where grown men show too much emotion, so you get a bit conditioned to the stiff upper lip way.

“However reading the comments at home I confess to a lump in the throat.

‘I have often used the expression ‘the only thing that is constant is change` and now I am understanding the full practical implications of such sentiments.

“Clearly all things come to an end and my time at Rovers I`m afraid ran out.

‘I never planned to leave in the fashion I did but you can`t plan everything.”

  • End or a good Era when he went and only in years to come will we be able to fully appreciate the job he did to keep us afloat, although it was frustrating when we had no money and our better players were sold, He kept ticket prices low and we stayed in the Prem, Lets just pray whoever replaces him can do the same and keep us in Europes top division

  • John Williams is a man of true integrety. A role model for any furure chairman of our club. One wonders at the integrity of our new owners!

  • He did a great for us – he was admired by clubs all around as well as a grrod chairman. God knows what will happen to us now…
