Derrick Williams’ Blackburn return, as you would imagine with this being a winning one, was one he was ‘really happy’ with. After a month out of the side due to injury suffered against former club Bristol City he made his return in the win against Brentford on Saturday, which was a game the defender also came through the full 90 minutes.

Not only was Williams back in the side he helped us to that important win, telling rovers.co.uk.

‘I’m really happy. Especially because after an injury in the first game you are always a bit wary about it, but I got through the 90 and even better we got the three points.’

Williams admitted to feeling the nerves to begin with but thought ‘all the boys did really well’ with three two win reward for the efforts shown by all on Saturday.

Conceding within a minute couldn’t have been a worse start for Blackburn but a recovery came quickly with Danny Graham’s brace turning things in our favour before the odd goal in five went in the favour of Rovers.

Defensive improvement was seen in the second half though with him adding he was happy with this.

‘We did okay defensively in the second half to keep them out. We have conceded a few late goals so you always have that in the back of your mind. So we just had to try and keep organised and keep talking to each other and make sure that we were all in the right places and I thought we did that well.’

If defensive improvement isn’t shown against Championship leaders Newcastle they’ll expose the Blackburn defence and probably aren’t going to offer up as many chances as Brentford did either.
