Reports, ahead of the weekend, had been saying that John O’Sullivan was coming back to Blackburn at the end of his loan spell with Barnsley – this was today confirmed.

The Official Website has confirmed that the winger has indeed returned to Ewood Park with Gary Bowyer deciding that the injury pile up means that we had no other option but to bring him back from the League 1 side, where he’s enjoyed regular first-team football and been a success.

When you look at our bench on Saturday to see that a youngster who had played in the reserves the night before was involved, this shows the numbers were light and needs must.

‘He is coming back because of the numbers and how we are he will certainly be involved in the squad when he comes back.

‘You only had to look at the other night when we had Connor Mahoney on the bench who had played 90 minutes for the Reserves the night before.’

Experience of football in the Conference, League 2 and now League 1 means that the natural progression is the Championship…. Having returned, and with us having little to play for in the Championship bar pride you would expect him to get some involvement between now and the end of the season?

If not, even with numbers thin on the ground, he would have been better off staying with Barnsley and playing regularly wouldn’t he!
