World Cup Winning Rovers…

My love for facts, stats and trivia lead me to try something different here on Vital Blackburn. On this occasion BomBom gave you a Trivia question to try and answer.

The question asked:
Rovers have had how many world cup winners play for them? Who are they and when did their respective country win the trophy with them in the team?

The World Cup winning Rovers were:

Ossie Ardiles – 1978 Argentina (Rovers 1987-1988)
Youri Djorkaeff – 1998 France (Rovers 2004)

Interestingly enough both the former Rovers World Cup Winners won their respective World Cup’s on home soil! Argentina’s in Buenos Aires in 1978 saw them beat the Dutch 3-1 after extra time; France’s win in Paris saw them overcome Brazil 3-0.

Technically John Connelly was part of the England 1966 World Cup winning squad but didn’t pick up a winners medal so sadly couldn’t be added…

Congratulations to govtpros who was the first to correctly get this.

Do you have any trivia questions you would like to put to everyone? If so contact me via e-mail at this address editor@blackburn.vitalfootball.co.uk and I’ll get Vital Football Members pondering over your teaser…
