With YOUR help Vital Blackburn has been trying to determine what have been the best and worst of the Blackburn Rovers 2007-2008 season.

The nominations are still being taken for ONE other Award (Player of the Year) but the Vital Blackburn Awards for 2007-2008 reach its penultimate Award to be dished out with the YOUNG PLAYER OF THE SEASON.

THE WINNER: MATT DERBYSHIRE.

When asked to simply leave the name of your Young Player of the Season most felt Matt Derbyshire should be the Award Winner, so congratulations Derbyshire on picking up the accolade!

For a second year running Derbs was a unanimous winner of this Award, mainly due to the fact that he didn’t really have any competition for this, that isn’t to say that he didn’t deserve to win this Award by any means.

Derbs didn’t feature as much as I had hoped (or even expected) but his case wasn’t helped by some niggling injuries, but when he did play he still did more than enough to enhance his growing reputation and hopefully this coming season we can see him more regularly and he can take the next step towards becoming a regular for club and country in the years to come!!!

Martin Olsson deserves special mention as he did pick up the clubs Official Young Player of the Year Award and did again a few mentions (including my own vote, which considering how highly I rate Derbs must mean I was impressed lol!) and Keith Treacy also gets a mention for making it into the first team. All three will be hoping for even more match action this season.

Thanks for voting on this, PLEASE KEEP your votes coming in for these other Awards, as there is STILL time to vote so click here for the list of categories and vote on the one(s) you want!

Next to be dished out will be the Award for the PLAYER OF THE SEASON (so keep voting!!!)

  • This season will hopefully see this Award more fiercely contested as we do have youngsters looking to break through. Congratulations to my boy Derbs though!

  • Yes hopefully it will, looking forward to seeing more of olsson next year! Hopefully whitbread can get some more in as well!

  • i really rate olsson, i hope we can find a place for him, rather then losing him just like most of our juniors lol also, is it becoming devita time?????????

  • Yeah De Vita is gone sas, he’s been on trial with Inverness I think it was and has now signed a contract with them. WHATEVER happened to the dude, I thought he was going to be massive?

  • I thought he would be decent but not that great… we still have some young blood that can make an impression Olsson definitely but also Peter. Injured last season but still bags of potential.
