Andy Todd began his career with Mibblesbrough in the early 1990’s under his father Colin but only managed a handful of appearances before being loaned to Swindon Town.

His next port of call was to be Bolton Wanderers where he was reunited with his father in 1995. A four year spell in which he won the Old Division One (now Championship) Title ended as his “colourful background” of high profile bust ups began! A training ground incident which saw him allegedly break the nose of the then Bolton assistant manager Phil Brown saw him unceremoniously booted out?

Charlton Athletic snapped him up in 1999 with him once again winning the Division One Title. But another club career was eventually end following another disagreement on the training pitch. A fight with goalkeeper Dean Kiely saw his position at the Valley left very much in doubt. Initially loaned out to Grimsby he returned to Charlton before Souness lured him to Ewood Park in the summer of 2002.

After falling out of favour and failing to impress Souness; Todd appeared to have no future with Rovers being loaned out to Burnley in 2003. He managed to force his way back into the first team set-up and impressive displays saw him eventually take over as captain.

An imposing, powerful central defender he could also be used as a defensive midfielder. Todd is not afraid to put in a tackle as we all know and sometimes over enthusiastically.

First team football hasn’t been assured since the tail end on the 2005-2006 season and a move away from Ewood Park could be on the cards come January? It looked like it could happen during the summer transfer window but nothing happened and he remained at Ewood Park although he hasn’t featured since his transfer request early in the 2006-2007 season.

Todd’s best days may well be behind him now but his commitment for the cause can never be doubted. I don’t doubt that he would run through a brick wall if it was beneficially to this or any other club he has, or will be with in the future?
