Blackburn Rovers striker Roque Santa Cruz is hoping that his European experience can not only help Rovers past MyPa, but ALSO help bring UEFA Cup success this season.

Rovers face Finnish club MyPa today in the 1st leg of the 2nd Qualifying Round of the UEFA Cup and Santa Cruz is sure that with his help Rovers can take their place in the 1st Round proper.

The Paraguayan International told the Daily Express: “I am very ambitious and want to do my best for the team so that is why I am looking to do well against MyPa.

“It is always nice to play in Europe. We will do our best and try to get a result in Finland, so that we can go as far as possible this season
.”

He has already helped his former side Bayern Munich to a Champions League Final (although he sat on the bench as the Germans won the 2001 Final), which is obviously the highlight of his European success, but he is still hungry for much more and sees the UEFA Cup as a big prize to aim for.

He added: “Of course it is still an ambition to play in a European final. It is the pinnacle of any player’s career to play in a win a Champions League final, but the Uefa Cup is still a big thing.

“My history in Europe will help me perform well in these games
.”
