I’m disappointed Blackburn Rovers started with defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers, however, I’d like to say congratulations to Rudy Gestede who scored on his Aston Villa debut against AFC Bournemouth.

Gestede lining up for Blackburn at the start of our SkyBet Championship season against Wolves would’ve been the hopes for many but I’d think most of us realistically knew this wasn’t ever likely to be the case and a move to The Barclays Premier League was going to happen at some point. I’d still say my honest opinion is this move to Villa is the best one for him.

Tim Sherwood started him on the substitutes bench, however, he made himself an instant hero (you could hear the chants of “Rudy, Rudy, Rudy from the Villa supporters’ on Match of the Day) by heading the winner in Villa’s 1-0 win at Dean Court of Saturday afternoon.

It’s still a major shame the dude isn’t going to be at Ewood Park this season but players do come and go don’t they and his exit wasn’t a surprise. I’ll continue to keep an eye on the Benin International’s performances, and the goals he’ll probably be scoring!!
