Rovers boss Sam Allardyce has confirmed his interest in Ivelin Popov and hopes to complete a move if the figures work out favourably.

His current Litex Lovech claimed a deal prematurely last week but an actual deal could be done this week if terms can be sorted.

Popov has been on trial at Rovers for the last few days and is keen a move reportedly.

‘We had a little look at him and we are in tentative negotiations,’ said Allardyce to Sky Sports.

‘I am not so sure what the total outcome is in terms of price, but he is an interesting player.

‘He is a very good young prospect but whether all the numbers stand up is another matter.’

  • I must admit I do like the sound of this guy and what I have heard about him… even if I haven’t actually seen him play!!!

  • £1.5 million (reported) for a 22 year old with a 1 in 3 goal scoring ration sounds very good to me. He has huge potential and alongside Niko would have someone of the same age who he can learn from and form a good partnership with. I would be very happy if this was to go through.

  • Sounds like a good guy and cheap, sometimes these young people from a “poor” club really wants to achive something. I hope it is a guy like that, a work horse……cheers

  • sounds good to me! In our budget, young and full of potential, i’d much rather sign someone who is young and keen as opposed to say, hmmm, old and keen?? ie. Benjani
