Bentley happy for abuse to continue

Rovers winger David Bentley has encouraged football fans to carry on dishing out the verbal abuse from the stands – saying that fans are perfectly entitled to take part in football’s ‘pantomime’.

Bentley was on the end of some (what the kids would call) BANTZ from MIllwall home supporters on Sunday afternoon but has insisted it’s all part of the game – presumably as long as it’s not directed towards your own players as Danny Murphy and Bradley Orr would testify to.

Bentley is quoted in the Daily Mail as saying – ‘At times we get a bit politically correct in this society, fans should be allowed to drink, enjoy themselves and abuse the players. The players should take it. Football’s like a pantomime.

‘That’s what football should be about. There should be more of it. Every ground you go to should be like that with the fans fully involved. It’s the way it should be. It makes it more exciting. Football, especially now, can seem a bit boring.

‘People are paying big money to go to games, I see no problem with what they say as long as you stay away from racist and homophobic stuff, it’s fine.`

Glad that’s clear.
