Best aiming for February return

Rovers striker Leon Best is targeting a return to playing action by the start of February after admitting that his ligament has put things into perspective for him.

Best was bought by Rovers in the summer for £2m and on sizeable wages for a Championship club but didn’t even get started after picking up a cruciate ligament injury in a pre-season friendly with AEK Athens.

But the Irish striker is now raring to go after starting light training in the next stage of his recovery process.

‘I’ve definitely taken days when I’ve been playing for granted. I won’t ever take it for granted again,’ Best said as he spoke with BBC Radio Lancashire.

‘I know what I want to be doing and that’s playing football. I want it even more now than I’ve ever wanted it before.

‘It takes something bad to happen like that, but I’m going to get a positive out of it (ed – Uh oh, Kean alert).’

After a long lay off it is only natural that expectation for Best’s return is high, but the Drake lookalike has placed the same pressures upon himself. Perhaps wary he has lost time to make up for.

Best continued – ‘They paid good money for me so they should expect that, I expect it from myself.

‘It’s a matter of time for me to get back. I want to be involved straight away and help out in any way I can. I’ve come here to play and try to get the club promoted.

‘Luckily for me, I can still have a bit of an input when I get back fit.’
