Birmingham fail to provide assist

Birmingham City failed to provide Rovers with the desired helping hand last night, and in the process left themselves deep in the relegation mire.

Wigan entered the game 3 points ahead of our boys, with only a point needed from their game in hand to take them out of Rovers reach and a win to confirm their play off spot.

And it duly arrived in the form of a hard fought 1-0 win over the second City side, who now sit in the relegation zone with one final game remaining.

For Rovers, the odds of them now making that last play off spot are remote, with a 7 goal swing needed on the final day at Ewood as they face Wigan, who will at least be saving themselves for the three game assault course needed to reach the Premier League.

But Rovers will require Reading to lose at home to Burnley (who are hardly likely to roll over as a favour) and for Brighton to likely lose at Nottingham Forest to stand any chance.

Gary Boywer’s men for their part will need to rattle off a substantial win as well.

Sounds easy?

It’s a mountain, no word of a lie.
