Vital Blackburn’s most recent Poll asked you “What was March’s top Goal?

Each month, you the Vital Blackburn members are given the chance to vote for what you thought was the goal of the month. Where possible you are also given the chance of actually seeing the goal!

The votes have been cast and after being given the option of these six Rovers goals for March?

Benni McCarthy
Sunday 3rd verses Bolton Wanderers, Reebok Stadium, Premiership (2-1 win)
After Gary Speed had brought down David Bentley for a penalty the responsibility feel to Benni McCarthy. The South African picked his spot and beat Jussi Jaaskelainen low to his corner. The Finn went the right way but the power beat him. To see goal click here

Benni McCarthy
Sunday 3rd verses Bolton Wanderers, Reebok Stadium, Premiership (2-1 win)
This time as Benni McCarthy himself got in Abdoulaye Faye’s rash challenge gave Rovers a second penalty. McGoalmachine picked himself up to beat Jussi Jaaskelainen again (just!) in the same corner despite the Finn getting a good hand to this penalty. To see goal click here

Aaron Mokoena
Sunday 11th verses Manchester City, Ewood Park, FA Cup (2-0 win)
A good Rovers passing move eventually saw the ball delivered into the box finding its way to Aaron Mokoena who brought the ball down and shot right footed, which was blocked (this was going wildly wide!) the rebound feel to him again and he expertly beat Nicky Weaver with his left. Matt Derbyshire
Sunday 11th verses Manchester City, Ewood Park, FA Cup (2-0 win)
With time running up Manchester City inevitably went in search of an equaliser, leaving gaps at the back. A quickly taken free kick found Jason Roberts in space who held the ball up for Sergio Peter who delivered an inch perfect ball across the goal for Matt Derbyshire to fire home and secure a place in the Semi Final of the FA Cup. Christopher Samba
Saturday 17th verses West Ham United, Ewood Park, Premiership (2-1 defeat)
With the half time interval just past it appeared the West Ham United defence hadn’t come out as Christopher Samba was able to get a free header, powerful as it was, to beat Robert Green. THIS GOAL COULDN’T BE FOUND – SORRY!

Matt Derbyshire
Saturday 31st verses Manchester United, Old Trafford, Premiership (4-1 defeat)
A typical poachers goal! Morten Gamst Pedersen’s wonderful cross cut out by Michael Carrick, or at least attempted to be cut out, but he only diverted towards goal. Edwin Van Der Sar reacted well to save but his save came to none other than our own fox in the box (not Jeffers!) Matt Derbyshire to smash home. To see goal click here

?you voted in favour of Matt Derbyshire with 42%, deciding his strike on Sunday 11th against Manchester City at Ewood Park in the FA Cup Quarter Final was the best.

The importance of the late strike not to mention the fine move is what I think wrapped it up just ahead of Aaron Mokoena’s effort.

So in summary
McCarthy (#1) v Bolton (a) – 3%
McCarthy (#2) v Bolton (a) – 4%
Mokoena v Man City – FA Cup (h) – 23%
Derbyshire v Man City – FA Cup (h) – 42%
Samba v West Ham (h) – 19%
Derbyshire v Man United (a) – 9%
