Bowyer Laments Crucial Calls

Blackburn Rovers suffered a first (League) defeat of the season after conceding two late goals at Norwich City on Tuesday evening.

Rovers were off to a dream start when Tom Cairney fired us into a lead after just forty-one seconds from 25-yards but it was Norwich that eventually came back and won 3-1 at Carrow Road.

Gary Bowyer was pleased with our dominance to start the match but feels too many decisions went against us with his frustration at a non-award of a penalty for us.

The Rovers Manager told The Official Website: “We feel we’ve been on the wrong side of two major decisions in the game. It is as simple as that.

“We come out, we score an outstanding goal and we were very dominant for the first 15 minutes.

“We should have had a penalty, the lad’s hand is in an un-natural position and yet it doesn’t get given.“

If that was disappointing enough for him for Norwich to then get a penalty of their own just compounded his misery and frustration.

He added: Norwich come into the game, which they are going to do at home, they are a strong outfit, one of the favourites for promotion. But then to let them back in the game with the penalty that he gives, Lowey’s hand is down by his side, I can’t put it in words to explain it.

Norwich’s second goal (three-minutes from time) should’ve been the killer, however, even then we had chances to equalise but couldn’t take them before the third goal in injury-time confirmed our defeat.

The fight shown impressed Bowyer though with him also having plenty of praise and credit for the Rovers supporter’s that made the long journey, also added: “The way we started, the way we’ve stayed in the game, even at the end when they go 2-1 up we still had two great chances. We kept going, we showed some fight.

“Our supporters were magnificent. One of the things that they’ll be aware of as they come away from here is that we didn’t lie down and die here tonight, we had a right good go.

‘You saw at the end their emotion from beating us, they knew that it was a very very tough game for them.“
