Upsets are always great when you’re on the right end of them, however, when you’re on the wrong end like Blackburn Rovers were on Tuesday they’re not much fun are they!!

Neal Bishop’s first half header was the goal that condemned us to a 1-0 defeat (and Capital One Cup exit) at Ewood Park against League 1 side Scunthorpe United. Gary Bowyer wasn’t happy and wasn’t hiding his disappointment and anger.

A performance that was “not acceptable” was branded the worst that he’s overseen during his time as Rovers Manager.

Speaking to Radio Rovers Bowyer said: “It is massively disappointing. There are no excuses, it wasn’t good enough.

“In the 12 months I’ve been manager that is the worst that it has been. I’m not accepting that, not working as hard as what we have done for a performance like that.

“Credit to Scunthorpe, they put a decent performance in, but for 45 minutes it was nowhere near good enough for us, not with the standards that we’ve set.

“It was just not acceptable. It isn’t what we are about. The second half we had more of a go, but it is a lesson for one or two of them in there.

The Capital One Cup might not have been our priority this season, however, it was a competition that we could’ve gone a few rounds in and if nothing else given some players more on the fringes at Ewood Park some minutes for them to prove a point.

In my honest opinion the only point that some proved on Tuesday was that they’re not good enough, or ready, for a first team spot at the moment so at least (with him given permission to do so) Bowyer can now use this as a definite claim that he needs another player or two this season.
