Rovers manager Gary Bowyer was delighted after his Rovers side took their unbeaten run to 11 games with a 3-1 win at the Valley against Charlton Athletic.
Our boys picked up their second away win in the space of six days, with goals from Rudy Gestede – header as is now customary, on loan Michael Keane and Tom Cairney in a game that they were rarely troubled in after managing to restore their two goal cushion.
Paul Robinson also had a hand in matters after saving Marvin Sordell’s first half penalty with the score poised delicately at 1-0, but overall the team effort pleased the Rovers gaffer with the win keeping Rovers play-off hopes (very faintly) alive.
‘We scored some fantastic goals again today,’ the manager told Rovers Player after the game.
‘We were comfortable at 1-0 and we felt that we should have had a penalty, it is a nailed on penalty.
‘Then they go down the other end and we give a soft one away again, but full credit to Robbo he has gone the right way. It was a big moment because it was just before half-time.
‘The timing of our second goal was excellent and the quality of delivery was again fantastic.
‘We go 2-0 up and are disappointed to concede, but our reaction to that was top class.
‘In the end we could have had more as their goalie has made a couple of fantastic saves and we also hit the woodwork.
‘Overall we are very pleased with the performance.’
Rovers now need to hope on other results to seal 6th spot, with them also needing to beat Wigan by a substantial margin to have any hope.
