Rovers manager Gary Bowyer was happy with the response of his Rovers players after twice falling behind at Bloomfield Road on Saturday afternoon, with the ultimate outcome a deserved point and an optimistic post game assessment.

The Rovers of last season would have arguably petered out after suffering a sucker punch like the one served up by the somewhat fortunate goal before half time from Dan Gosling, but Rovers rallied and were sent out early for the second half with a renewed focus.

‘It was a game that had everything,’ the Rovers boss told the official website ‘In the end we are going away with a point that we thoroughly deserved.

‘So at half-time we had one or two choice words about going and upping the tempo and you have to give them credit as to how they’ve responded.’

Rovers pressed and were the main protagonists in possession, and were rewarded for their efforts with a late, late leveler.

‘If you look at the chances in the second half Tom Cairney in front of goal on three occasions could have done more for us,’ Bowyer continued.

‘Yes it is an own goal, it is a bit of luck at the end but I think over the course of the game it was the bit of luck that we deserved.

But the response was very positive from our boys and we are going away with a deserved point.’

Rovers are next in action at home to Middlesbrough on Saturday.
