I Didn’t Think We’d See Robbo Again!!

Just a few months ago not only did I not think we’d see Paul Robinson play for Blackburn Rovers again I wasn’t sure he’d play professional football again.

A long-term injury kept the Blackburn goalkeeper out of action, with him not exactly flavour of the month with some of the management team at Ewood Park before this. Simply recovering from injury wasn’t something that I once thought Robinson would manage and even if he did I didn’t think that we’d see him playing for Rovers again but I’m glad that I’ve been wrong on so many levels.

Robbo isn’t only fit and playing again but he’s showing some of his very best form for Rovers at exactly the right time.

I’m still harbouring outside thoughts of us making the Championship Play-Offs, however, I’m not sure we will manage this but if Robbo keeps playing the way he has been and those at the other end of the pitch can do what they have to then it’s not completely impossible that Rovers couldn’t become that side (as often happens) that makes a late surge and makes it into the Play-Offs.

How long Robbo will stay with Rovers is another matter (he’s still a very high earner after all) but I’m just happy to enjoy his availability while we can and think the other goalkeepers can learn a thing or two from him, including Simon Eastwood who is next in line but also someone that I’m not sure is a Championship standard goalkeeper, at least at the moment. However, with the help of the goalkeeping coach and the former England International that doesn’t have to be the case in the future.

Should Robbo be known as “former England International” though? With him open to an England recall if too many are in as good form as him at the moment I’d be surprised.
