Jake Kean started the season as the Blackburn Rovers first choice goalkeeper, however, he now finds himself pushed down to number three.

Gary Bowyer was missing Paul Robinson when the season started but brought in Simon Eastwood as cover but despite having the more experience, and being the senior goalkeeper, it was Kean that got the nod and kept this until Eastwood was eventually handed the gloves in December leaving Kean as his deputy.

Robinson returned to action in January and has been superb ever since.

The former England International took over from Eastwood with this now leaving Kean out of the matchday squad but he’s not out of the manager’s thoughts though with Bowyer rating all three goalkeepers that he has.

However, should a loan enquiry come in for either Kean or Eastwood then Bowyer might take advantage of this and send one out on loan.

Bowyer told The Lancashire Telegraph: “We’re blessed at the moment to have three goalkeepers really pushing each other to get that number one jersey. With regards to one of them going on out on loan, that is something we would have to assess if there were any enquiries.

“We can’t forget the importance Jake played to the team last season when he first burst in. This season also I remember when he made a hell of save at home to Leeds United when it was still 0-0 and we won 1-0.

“We’re blessed that we’ve got him. He’s still only 22, he’s a great size, people rightly still say he’s still a young age to be a goalkeeper playing first-team football. He’s a big asset to Blackburn Rovers and he provides competition for Robbo and Easty. Easty signed in the summer as a number three but he’s worked tremendously hard and pushed on and he’s played his part this season.
