Lambert: We Did Enough To Win The Game

Blackburn Rovers were twice ahead against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday afternoon, however, Blackburn couldn’t see the match out with this ending in a 2-2 draw at Ewood Park.

Against a Sheffield Wednesday side that had lost only once in the previous eleven matches means that’s not a bad result (is it) but when you’ve been ahead twice and you’re into the final ten minutes ahead again it’ll be disappointing (if not frustrating) if you’re not able to see this out like Rovers weren’t in Paul Lambert’s maiden match as Manager at Ewood.

Former Manager Gary Bowyer was often pulled up for his could have’s and should have’s after matches, after this one when Hope Akpan scored his first goal for us to first put us ahead and Corry Evans did the same before half time Lambert feels Rovers could’ve won the match.

However, he’s told The Official Blackburn Rovers Website he’s happy with the point: “I thought we did enough to win the game.

“We were up against a good side in Sheffield Wednesday, a team that had beaten Arsenal not that long ago, so we knew it would be a hard game.

“I’ve said to the lads that if you can’t win the game then make sure that you don’t lose it. So the point could be massive come the end of it.

The matches at home are the one’s we’ve got to win (against whatever opponents) so I’ve got a tinge of disappointment after this one, which you’ve got to have if you’ve been ahead twice haven’t you??

Lambert doesn’t feel he could fault the commitment of anyone and says there’s a little disappointment (as you’d expect) but no negativity.

The Manager added: “There’s no negativity at all, we’ve got a group of lads here that are honest as the days long, they give you everything they’ve got and on another day we might have won that.

“Their equaliser was a fortunate goal as Grant was hurt and the referee could have stopped the game. And even the finish is a mis-kick and the lad has headed it in.

“But I couldn’t fault the lads for their commitment, there is so much work to be done here, and we’ll do everything we can to make the better and successful.

Unbeaten from his two matches in charge (even if this doesn’t sound a big deal) and to have collected four points from matches at Deepdale against Preston North End and a very good Owls side at Ewood isn’t a bad return and start for Lambert though is it??
